The guided tour of the museum shows the key developments from 550 years of printing history. The historical printing techniques, type casting, hand and machine typesetting as well as printing on presses and machines are explained. The content is customised according to age, interest and curriculum relevance. During a subsequent workshop in the museum's typesetting workshop, the students create their own texts using lead letters and angled hooks. How come the characters in the book?

On a tour of the museum, the educational staff give the children a lively introduction to the fascination of historical printing technology and craftsmanship. They learn why the invention of printing was so world-shattering and how books were produced over 500 years ago. In the type foundry, the preschoolers experience the manual and mechanical production of lead type before they see how texts are set and printed from the moulded letters. Using easy-to-operate hand presses, the children print their own postcards, which are a great souvenir of the museum visit and can be personalised during a later craft session in the kindergarten. Creative courses

Various courses on printing, writing and paper invite you to try out new things. Image ideas can be realised as etchings or linocuts, we design our own paste paper and in the creative paper workshop we create origami boxes, booklets or fanfolds. We use natural materials, letter stamps and much more to create colourful letterpress images. Typography you can touch! With our rich pool of lead typesetting fonts and wooden letters, you can set and print your favourite texts, words, cards or typographic images by hand. No previous knowledge is required.
